About Me

Perry Maughmer

Vistage Chair & Relentless Leadership Executive Coach

I am guide for those relentless few willing to embrace the journey to become who they were meant to be.  I provoke, convict, and empower potential leaders (there is untapped potential in all of us regardless of your role or title) to take action and and do the  meaningful work to create a better world for those they care about .  When people lean in, it creates an environment where accountability and motivation are experienced and not just discussed.

Collectively, we create a new of being that gives power to all stakeholders and sets the foundation for scalability, sustainability, and predictability.

We do this because we believe we  have the power and responsibility to leave our small part of the world better than we found it.

My Core Values

These core values serve as the foundation of who I am and guide me in both my personal and professional life. They shape my decisions, actions, and interactions, allowing me to lead with purpose and make a positive impact.

Appreciate

I do not deserve anything and will treat each person, each day, and each experience as a gift because things happen for me and not to me.

Evolve

verb: to develop slowly often into a better advanced state
I will seek out challenges that align with my values and remain in a constant state of learning so that I may become the best version of myself.

Roam

verb: to travel purposefully unhindered through a wide area
I will seek and serve and allow my purpose to arise from these efforts and I will savor the relationships, experiences, and journey without regard to the particular end.

Provoke

verb: to stir up and arouse or to call forth
I will feel deeply and engage with others who desire the same because passion is what makes life a worthy endeavor.

Ponder

verb: to think or consider especially quietly, soberly, and deeply
I will be comfortable not knowing and curious about all people and situations as each of them presents me with an opportunity to learn.

Perry & Sister

This is me with Lisa Maughmer, my sister. I owe so much of who I am to being raised with her because it was through those formative experiences that this list of values came to be.  While I can tie them all in, the most profound and meaningful…and the foundation for my life is “appreciate”.

Lisa has never been able to care for herself and is 100% dependent on others for everything.  This might lead a human to be bitter or demanding but not her.  She is the most appreciative, caring, and generous person I have ever known and she is the model for how I want to live my life.

I cannot begin to explain the depth of my appreciation for my entire life.  The good, the bad, and the ugly…I love it all.  I appreciate every experience I am blessed to have because I am not owed any of it and never want to take it for granted because there are so many who are not as fortunate as I am.

So many things I catch myself complaining about are things my sister would give the world to experience just once and leads to my profound sense of appreciation and gratitude for each day and all that it offers me.  “Appreciate” almost rings as a command in my head whenever I slip into feeling sorry for myself and for that, I thank Lisa each and every day.

Perry Maughmer - Relentless Leadership

What is Relentless Leadership?

My kids got me the table top piece you see in the photo for Christmas a number of years ago, and recently it found its way to my office. For me, there is a much deeper message for those who "choose to create a better world for those they care about" (my definition of leading).

We do our very best work when we care less about the outcome.

When we have distance from the work that provides us with greater perspective and allows us to truly "see" what it happening. When we care deeply about very few things, that is when we lean into the work and overcome the noise. When the trivial many fall away and the vital few are all that remain. When we have absolute clarity and can also provide that for others is when it clicks and all friction is removed.

Seek the Archimedean Point.

This (philosophical) spot describes the ideal of removing yourself from the object of study so that you can see it in relation to all other things while remaining independent of them. It is the point of absolute leverage and that is always the goal. Leading is about making it easier for people to do their work but never making their work easier.

Struggle is the human condition and without it we cannot grow.
  • Are you clear on what you care deeply about?
  • Do all of those you care about know what those things are?
  • Do they know first and foremost that you care deeply about them?
Once you know what truly matters to you and why, the world begins to fall away and the noise settles into the background. You see the wonder in the mundane and can operate within the world without being dragged down by it. You find your peace and contribute to truly making it a better place for those you care about. You are leading.

All can.
Most won't.
Few do.

Will you be on of those relentless few?
